Let’s focus on is Focus. Whether it’s on business, personal or family matters, many of us (notice I include myself) need to rein ourselves in and Focus.
In today’s hectic lifestyle, so many things call out for and compete for our attention. Sometimes it’s difficult to segment our time. We find ourselves multi-tasking and, in the process, becoming distracted and failing to complete tasks. Perfect example, this morning I caught myself exiting the shower without rinsing the shampoo out of my hair. I’d been thinking about the newsletter and got distracted…even tho’ I’ve been doing this task for 50+years! My kids would say I’m just reaching my dotage;-). But I believe it illustrates that even things we take for granted, things that should be on auto-pilot, sometimes require more focus.
How many of us are scrambling to get our businesses off the ground? We each have limited time to devote to our businesses. In the process, are we trying to focus on too many things at once?
- Are we trying to get everything up and running immediately?
- Do we feel the pressure of needing to make money either for a bill or to build our marketing budget?
- Are we trying to get our primary business established and having to learn a whole new skill set like consultative selling?
- Do we feel the pressure to get our websites up and running so we can get our affiliate marketing off the ground and generate our own leads?
- Once the site is up, how will we drive the traffic? So many ways, are we trying to learn them all?
When facing these, what is your approach? Is it like shooting a double barreled shotgun…scattered in 14 different directions chasing down each new thing? Or is it to sit down and brainstorm with a pencil and pad, writing a list of whatever comes into your mind…things that you feel need your attention?
In her book, The Renegade Network Marketer, Ann Sieg talks about working effectively or efficiently. (If you haven’t purchased a copy, click the link http://terriebel.com/ ) To work effectively, we must stop and focus on our goals. Yes, I know, you may have a page full of goals. Take the time to categorize them. Now choose one category as a priority and prioritize the things in that category. Then go to work accomplishing the benchmarks you set to reach that goal. To get life under control, you might have to set up mini-goals within a goal category so you can go on to another category. That’s OK. The main thing is to work smarter and focus your energy on accomplishing /completing benchmarks toward your goal.
